Skycity expands online gambling portfolio with Gaming Innovation Group deal

SKYCITY Malta Limited, a subsidiary of New Zealand based SKYCITY Entertainment Group Limited (SKYCITY), recently acquired an online casino solution plus gambling licence in a long-term agreement with Gaming Innovation Group inc. (GIG).

Based on the agreement, the solution includes the technical platform, fully managed services, gaming content, front end development, CRM, compliance and marketing. The gambling site will be operated from Malta on behalf of SKYCITY and will be available to all NZ gambling consumers. In addition, GIG will support the growth of the new online casino through its cutting-edge technology, flexible architecture and industry know-how.

The launch of the online casino offering is planned for Q3 2019, so GIG does not anticipate much of an impact on its revenues this year. The partnership is however expected to make a significant positive contribution to GiG’s revenues from 2020 onwards.

Graeme Stephens, Chief Executive Officer of SKYCITY has this to say about the newly forged collaboration: “SKYCITY is delighted to be partnering with GiG to establish an online casino offering, based in Europe. MONOPOLY Live is on its way!

From mere 5.6% in 2012, presently 22.7% Australians gamblers use mobile phones for betting. There has been virtually no change in the numbers of betters who use PCs for betting – it was 15.2% in 2012 and 15.1% in 2018.

Percentage of Australians who used the internet for betting rose considerably from 15.7% in 2012 to 34.1% in 2018. Though the online gaming numbers show to be healthy, there has been a drop in the numbers of Australians betting – in 2012 the numbers were 3.7 million and in 2018, the numbers are 3.4 million – a drop of 8.7%.

It is clear from these available statistics and figures that quite a large number of Australians bet, but they don’t use the internet for the same. Former Baccarat Dealer Scams Crown Casino Melbourne

Michael Huo, a baccarat dealer who was once employed at Crown Casino Melbourne has been charged with scamming the Casino. According to prosecutors, three associates of Hip who posed as players helped him rob the casino of a whopping AU$431 700.

The incident took place in the casino’s VIP player’s room – which is also called as the Mahogany Room – and transpired over two months.

How Crown Casino Melbourne Was Scammed

Upon investigation, authorities have arrived at the conclusion that Huo allegedly rigged high roller games by peeking into the cards before actually dealing them. He then passed this information to his associates to help raise their odds of winning.

Over the course of the two month long scam, authorities at the casino noticed suspicious activities at the dealer’s table and thereafter put together a surveillance team to dig deeper. This led to the discovery of the footage where Huo and the three co-conspirators were making huge wins through deceit. The authorities arrested all four who were involved in the scam.

Accused Scammers Will Face Punishment

Three of the accused scammers have been charged with criminal conduct following the discovery. However, they will still need to attend a hearing which will decide if they need to attend a trial. They have been charged with engaging in deceptive behavior for monetary gains, use of illegal gains, and corrupting a wagering outcome.

The fourth scammer whose winnings was just AU$1900, has been asked to follow a diversion program after he admitted to have been involved in the scam. The diversion program also requires that a donation of AU $500 is made towards a charity that focuses on helping gambling addicts.
